About Chicken Tikka Recipe
Chicken Tikka is a popular Indian dish made with tender pieces of boneless chicken marinated in yogurt, aromatic spices, ginger, and garlic. The marinated chicken is then grilled or roasted until juicy on the inside and lightly charred on the outside. It makes a delicious starter, party snack, or main course.

500 g boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces

½ cup thick plain yogurt

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

1 tbsp cooking oil

1 tsp garam masala

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp ground coriander

1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder or paprika

½ tsp turmeric powder

½ tsp black pepper

Salt, to taste

1 onion, cut into chunks

1 bell pepper, cut into chunks

Fresh coriander and lemon wedges, for serving
How to Cook – Step by Step
1. Prepare the marinade: In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, oil, garam masala, cumin, coriander, chilli powder, turmeric, black pepper, and salt.
2. Marinate the chicken: Add the chicken pieces and mix thoroughly so that every piece is coated with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours, or preferably overnight for a deeper flavour.
3. Prepare the skewers: Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers, alternating with pieces of onion and bell pepper.
4. Cook in the oven: Preheat the oven to 220°C. Arrange the skewers on a baking tray and cook for approximately 18–22 minutes, turning halfway through. The chicken should be fully cooked and reach 74°C at the centre.
5. Add a charred finish: For a traditional tikka-style appearance, grill or broil the chicken for another 2–3 minutes, watching carefully, until the edges are lightly charred.
How to Serve
Serve Chicken Tikka hot with mint-coriander chutney, sliced onions and fresh lemon wedges. It can also be served with naan, roti or basmati rice for a complete meal.
For another option, use the cooked Chicken Tikka as a filling for wraps, sandwiches or salads, or add it to a rich tomato-based sauce to make a Chicken Tikka Masala-style dish. or preferably overnight for a deeper flavour.
