Classic Pancake Recipe

About

Pancakes are soft, fluffy breakfast treats made from a simple batter of flour, milk, and eggs, cooked to golden perfection on a pan. Loved by all ages, they’re quick to prepare and easy to customize with fruits, chocolate, nuts, or syrups. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet anytime snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp melted butter or oil

  • ½ tsp vanilla essence (optional)

How To cook

Step-by-Step

  • Step 1: Gather and measure all ingredients

Before starting, measure all ingredients accurately and keep them ready on your kitchen counter.
This makes the cooking process smooth and prevents mistakes while mixing.

  • Step 2: Prepare the dry ingredients

Take a large mixing bowl and add:

    • all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt

Using a whisk or spoon, mix everything well until the dry ingredients are evenly combined.
This step ensures the pancakes rise evenly and taste balanced.

  • Step 3: Prepare the wet ingredients

    In a separate bowl, add:

    • milk, egg, melted butter or oil, vanilla essence (if using)

Whisk gently until the mixture becomes smooth and uniform.
Make sure the butter is not too hot, otherwise it can cook the egg.

  • Step 4: Combine wet and dry mixtures

Slowly pour the wet mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients.

Using a whisk or spoon, mix gently until just combined.

  • Important tip:
Do not overmix the batter. Small lumps are perfectly fine and help make the pancakes fluffy and soft.

  • Step 5: Rest the batter (optional but recommended)

Let the batter rest for 5 minutes at room temperature.

This allows the baking powder and baking soda to activate fully, resulting in lighter and fluffier pancakes

  • Step 6: Heat the pan

Place a non-stick pan or tawa on medium heat.

    Lightly grease the pan with:

    • a small amount of butter, or a few drops of oil

    • The pan should be warm but not smoking hot.

      Step 7: Pour the batter

Using a ladle, pour one portion of batter onto the center of the pan.

Do not spread the batter too much; it will naturally form a round pancake as it cooks.

Step 8: Cook the first side

Cook for 1–2 minutes on medium heat.

      You will notice:

      • small bubbles forming on the surface

      • edges starting to look set

This means the pancake is ready to flip.

Step 9: Flip and cook the second side

Carefully flip the pancake using a spatula.

Cook the other side for about 1 minute, until it turns golden brown and is fully cooked inside.

      Step 10: Repeat the process

Lightly grease the pan again if needed and repeat the same steps with the remaining batter until all pancakes are cooked.
